ATEX

Detailed Description

As of July 1st, 2003, the implementation of Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX 100a) is compulsory in regard to devices and protection systems that are intended for use in potential explosive atmospheres. The Greek Legislation was streamlined initially through the relevant decision Β17081/2964 (Government Gazette Β’157/13.03.96), and subsequently via decision 52019/ΔΤΒΝ 1152 (Government Gazette Β’1426/20.05.2016), which now corresponds to recast Directive 2014/33/EC.

Furthermore, through Presidential Decree 42/2003 (Government Gazette Α’44/21.02.2003), the implementation of Directive 99/92/ΕC (ATEX 137) regarding minimum requirements for the improvement of Health and Safety of employees that may potentially be exposed to risk in explosive atmospheres, became compulsory. According to said Directive, any workplaces where explosive atmospheres may be formed (e.g. refineries, natural gas installations, installations of petrochemical products, etc.) must meet the minimum requirements of Directive 99/92/EC.

Apart from certification of products, TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS is also active in the field of drawing up ATEX workplace studies. The study is drawn up in five stages:

  1. Collection of information
  2. Recording properties of relevant materials – classification
  3. Identification of risks – Risk assessment
  4. Recording protection measures
  5. Drawing up study
